Non-surgical spinal decompression for Fort Pierce patients
A bulging or herniated disc can make everything harder, from sitting through a shift to sleeping through the night. If you live in Fort Pierce and are looking for a non-surgical option, Tradition Family Chiropractic offers spinal decompression at our office in the Tradition area of Port St. Lucie, and Dr. Ravi Jitta, DC, sees patients from across the Treasure Coast.
We want to be upfront: our only office is at 10552 SW Village Parkway in Port St. Lucie. There is no Tradition Family Chiropractic location in Fort Pierce. Patients from the area drive to us, and we plan visits so the schedule is manageable.
How spinal decompression works
Spinal decompression therapy uses a computer-controlled motorized table to gently stretch and relax the spine in cycles. That cycling is designed to create negative pressure inside the spinal discs, which can help draw bulging disc material back toward the center and pull fresh nutrients and oxygen into the disc.
It is a more advanced form of traction. Most patients find it comfortable and describe it as a gentle stretch; some fall asleep on the table. Each session lasts 20 to 30 minutes and there is no recovery time afterward.
Who may be a candidate
Herniated and bulging discs
Disc problems are the most common reason patients ask about spinal decompression. Taking pressure off the disc may ease the pain it causes.
Sciatica and pinched nerves
When a disc presses on a nerve, pain, burning or tingling can travel down the leg or arm. Decompression is designed to reduce that pressure.
Degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis
These conditions are also evaluated for decompression. Dr. Jitta reviews your history and imaging to decide whether it is appropriate.
Patients looking to avoid surgery
If you have been told surgery is an option but want to explore conservative care first, a decompression evaluation is a reasonable next step. Always keep your medical doctor informed.
Your spinal decompression plan
Exam and imaging review
Dr. Ravi Jitta performs a detailed spinal exam, reviews your X-rays or MRI, and assesses nervous system function to decide whether decompression is right for you.
Treatment sessions
You lie on the specially designed table while the computer-controlled system stretches and relaxes your spine. Most patients need 15 to 25 sessions over 4 to 8 weeks.
Combined care
Dr. Jitta often combines decompression with corrective chiropractic adjustments, SoftWave therapy and rehabilitative exercises, following the MaxLiving 5 Essentials approach.

What to bring to your first visit
If you already have X-rays or an MRI of your spine, bring them or have the report sent ahead. Dr. Jitta reviews imaging as part of deciding whether spinal decompression is appropriate, and existing images can save time. Also bring a list of medications and any notes from other providers you have seen for the same problem, so your first visit gives him the complete picture.
